Glossary of words Hinduism Spirituality Inner meanings explained (M)

  • Mahabharata (The great Hindu Epic)
  • Maya (Ignorance)
  • Meditation (Yoga in Hindi)
  • Moha (Deep emotional attachment)
  • Moksha (Salvation)
  • Mrityu (Death)

  • Mahabharata (The great Hindu Epic)

Mahabharata: The most wonderful Epic ever written in the history of mankind! Only through this Epic does one come to know of Gita, the song Eternal ... The messages of Cosmic wisdom conveyed by Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurushetra!!

There comes a stage in the Cosmic cycle when Adharma tries to takeover Dharma! As per Indian mythology to set everything right ... At this stage the Lord himself manifests on Mother Earth!!

About 3600 years ago when forces of destruction were raising their hood and it was becoming difficult for a common man to continue living with honest means ... Lord Krishna came and by his proper guidance and blessings to Humanity saved the World from destruction!

History repeats itself. Now again, after a lapse of 3600 years the time has once again come ... When World peace is being threatened by the dictates of Saddam Hussein (a dictator of the modern Era) and Bill Clinton (head of the so called Democratic setup called USA).

Anguished by the whims & fancies of Bill Clinton, Saddam Hussein would retaliate pushing the whole World to a Nuclear War (1999 - 2003) starting anywhere between Oct. 1, 1998 to Dec. 31, 1999. Result ... Total annihilation from the map of the World of all forces wearing a false mask of Truth!!

India (in 2006) would regain the lost glory! Guide the World Humanity to a new frontier in mankind!! All possible with the advent of Bhagwan Kalki, an avatar of the modern Era ... Who would surface on the World map soon after the WW3 starts.

Such would be the powers of this man that even the Kings, Presidents, Prime Ministers and Sheiks would tremble under his leadership. Loaded to the brim with Truth and only Truth, unattached to all possessions on Mother Earth, he would guide the destiny of 480 crore people (4800 Million only as 1200 Million people would perish in WW3) out of total chaos which has surrounded the mankind since 1984!!!

Science would henceforth be used only for constructive purposes ... To fathom the deep Seas, reach deeper within the core of Mother Earth and penetrate deep into the unknown frontiers of outer Space would become the only aim!!

A new great great Mahabharata would be rewritten when India comes to be known as Greater India with all surrounding smaller nations like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Srilanka and many others getting submerged in it!

Glory be to India, the Great Hindustan!!!

    Maya (Ignorance)

Maya: What separates a Human Being from God the Creator! Can we see the stars in daylight. One who has seen only day light would never believe the existence of stars. What makes us believe half truth as the only Truth!! The limited intellectual knowledge gained through five senses prompts us in believing this World to be the only Truth.

A single look beyond the day light above the clouds would belie the Truth ... Remove the veil of Maya (ignorance) and you face the Ultimate Truth! What we see and believe with our senses is not the end.

The subtle Truth lies beyond the grasp of ordinary. By patient practice and sadhana we have to learn the Ultimate Truth ... The truth of Atman soul manifesting a body and Brahman (the Creator of the cosmos)!!

Why Brahman (God the Creator) created Cosmos, Atman and human beings! To learn those Cosmic truths hidden in which lies the Ultimate Reality ... We have to penetrate the veil of Maya (Ignorance) inherent in every being ... Then only shall we be able to start on the Spiritual journey, the Essence of all beings manifesting on Mother Earth!!

    Meditation (Yoga in Hindi)

Meditation: Anyone with a slight Spiritual inclination would say with confidence that one meditates daily. Ask them the right procedure for Meditation ... most would stare blank! One may say, Meditation means concentrating on the core of a lighted bulb in a darkened room. Others may put forward, "trying to concentrate on nothingness ... a state when no thought remains in the body". Fewer still would say," concentrating on your atman the soul within". How! Is what eludes them all. You can meditate perfectly well if you knew the meaning of word " Meditation".

"Meditation" is the English translation of Hindi word "Yoga". Yoga is an Upanishadic word and since the times of Mahabharata and the preachings of Lord Krishna ... it's meaning has remained the same. For understanding any Upanishadic text one has to delve deeper within the inner confines of the word meaning. Literal translation won't help. It is by far best for those who want their names etched in the history with Golden colors ... who take pride in decorating their names with numerous degrees ... so-called Scholars of Philosophy.

Yoga is derived from the basic root "Yog" which in Hindi means uniting something. Yog of 2 plus 2 is 4. Yoga in Spiritual terminology means ... the effort of Atman (The Soul Within on its Cosmic journey) to get reunited with its source, the Brahman (the Almighty Creator of the cosmos). This subconscious effort of Atman within may not be always given cognizance by the egoistic I of a Human Being. Truth prevails. The Atman within dominates all our actions in the end. Yoga ... which is inherently being tried out by Atman within all the time finds itself expressed in Saints and Sages who have achieved a certain level of Spiritual purification.

For a common man, it is a struggle of 8.4 Million manifestations right from the stage when it started on its Cosmic journey. As an Amoebae (first manifestation taken by the Atman) and up to the last stage of perfection ... the Nirvikalpa Samadhi, the Self Realization and finally gains moksha salvation! To cut short the journey by proper synchronization (Yoga) is a hard task! Only few succeed in their attempts. The journey has to be completed by one and all ... no exceptions. Do it willingly as prompted by atman the soul within or unwillingly as dictated by your ego.

You alone shall reap the dividends of your Karma. Why hesitate of the inevitable! Do not fear God. He loves all and equally. He never discriminates. You are born poor owing to resultant Karma of your past lives. You can improve upon your Karma by neutralizing your negative Prarabdha Karma by praying to God and asking for Forgiveness for sins committed in this or earlier lives. Never be the judge of his (Creator's) actions. Invoke the Grace of God (available absolutely free). The most important aspect of Life, the power to Forgive has always been available free, yet underutilized by most Human Beings (owing to their ignorance).

Practice Meditation in its truest form. Be truthful to all. As you climb higher and higher on the Spiritual plane, you shall reap the benefits of your labor of love.

Yoga is required to be practiced in following stages -

    1. You are required to practice it in Daily Life ... free yourself of all sins committed knowingly or unknowingly in day-to-day Life. If the sin is committed by the others ... you have to learn to Forgive them.

    2. You have to absolve yourself of all the accumulated sins of past lives. You must earn the Grace of God ... pay Obeisance to all Atmans against whom the sin was committed.

Once you are free of all sinful effects, your body would glow from the Truthfulness radiating from within ... all negative influences drained out from your body ... you shall feel energized from the residual effects the Spirituality. Maintaining a balance between the effects of the present and past lives is the Essence of Yoga. A true Yogi lives in this World but is not attached to the body. King Janaka was a true example of such a phenomenon.

Working out a perfect synthesis between atman the soul within and Brahman (the Almighty Creator of the cosmos) is the Essence of Yoga. One needs to maintain his body in perfect shape and health to practice Yoga (Yogic exercises thus form part and parcel of this curriculum).

To reach the source of all (the Baikunth) wherein resides the Creator, one has to start from one's own body. Which part of the body plays most vital role? No heart ... no body. No heart ... no Atman, for heart is the abode of atman the soul within. To reach the heart and its occupant one needs to concentrate on the intermediate link. Thus arises the necessity of concentrating on "Shava Asana" (the death posture) which alone has the capability of leading one to atman the soul within.

Who inhales ... the body? No no ... it cannot be for, the body is inert. atman the soul within needs oxygen for its survival. If you are able to reach the source through your breathing process ... you shall one day come face-to-face with your true inner self. Atman being of the same Essence as that of Brahman, you are bound to realize God within this Life. To meditate properly you must have a definite reason. Once the goal is fixed it is but to concentrate all your energies on the target. Single pointed concentration would win you the day. What of the goal? What must be have in mind before starting Meditation!

Meditation (Yoga) is but a journey. Eternal goal for all is fixed since eternity. One has only to decide whether to complete the Cosmic journey within this Life time nay postpone it indefinitely. A fixed Cosmic goal of Life, our total Faith in God, an unwavering Faith in our own capability (of realizing the goal in this Life) brings us closer to God. If we are lucky enough, we shall earn his grace ... one darshan of God and all is over for Atman within. No further looking back . Veil of Maya (ignorance) removed forever, we can now have a glimpse of the Essence of the Creator and his creation. Ephemeral realities like material riches, physical relationships etc. ... all lose their meaning. All become one for you. In the mighty ocean of 6000 Million people you fail to distinguish your own from others. Till yesterday all whom you called your Father, Mother, Guru , wife and children lost to God ... you are able to break the bond which attached you with your near and dear one's.

    Moha (Deep emotional attachment)

Moha: Deep emotional attachment to any object ... Is infested with and becomes the root cause of most harm inflicted on the society!!! One who leads a Life with unattached attitude is able to maintain a balance between the physical manifested Life (the mundane existence) and the Spiritual component propelled by Atman (the soul) within.

Inherent in all beings ... Moha towards the blood relations is a deep rooted trait of character! None can come out of its clutches. When a child is born it is reared by the parents ... Had the parents no Moha towards the child ... proper upbringing of the child would become questionable!!

As per the laws of Manu ... parents are solely responsible for the proper upbringing of their children up to the age of 18 years. However, with the growth of society and development of science which have affected the brain and have made it more receptive to education ... Children have become less dependent on parents and after 14 years of age ... They have to be looked upon as colleagues/friends!

At this stage, the relationship becomes one of give and take. The more you tend to care for your children ... more likely they will respond better at a later stage. In the Indian society where Moha is more predominant as compared to other parts of the World ... The growth of the child is more likely to be influenced by the wishes of its parents ... which may or may not totally go against the sincere desires of the child, sometimes ending with catastrophic results.

The child who wished to become a doctor enters a totally unknown field of education unable to exert his will against that of his elders. This child having become a gold smith may not rise to the expectation of his parents for inherently he reared a different profession. Unknown to all, this child may start living with an un-attached attitude towards Life and unable to bear the pitfalls at every corner confines himself to those secluded parts of Life which give nothing but tensions. He is not the only sufferer in the game. All in the family bear the brunt. In the circumstances what justice can be expected from the child!

A deeply rooted emotion is the cause of all Moha. The society in the west owing to the faster developments taking place in the field of Engineering and Science is becoming less attached to their children with the result that it becomes mandatory for all children crossing the age of 18 years to leave their parental home and establish themselves in a separate house.

Can we now compare a lad of the western World above 18 years of age to an Indian boy of equivalent age. In the Western society every child at every stage of Life is totally free to take his own decisions and the decisions taken by this child are respected by all in the family. It is not the onus of the parents alone to chart out the course of Life of their children for parents are supposed to be stepping stones to success in Life of their children. Why not let them take their own decisions and guide them only when they ask for. Comes a stage in Life when these children will bring cheer to their parents ... Fruits of labor you have truly earned.

One very important factor in the western society is the general culture which has been built into the society by efforts of one and all. A helping attitude towards one and all keeps everyone happy ... Devoid of all emotions everyone looks towards another with respect irrespective of age.

Presently, even the western Pundits have started considering the Indian style of living as imbibed with more values but to what avail! Living in a joint family is much more enjoyable than living alone but what if the children are unable to stand out on their own after crossing 18? Like a keg in the wheel going round and round with no fixed aim of Life ... What would be the end result?

God gave us a brain to think ... To become mature by the time one reaches 21 years of age. The earlier one grows up and becomes independent ... the better it is for one and all. What use of all latent powers in a Human Being unless one puts them to intelligent use for the self and the society!

Excessive Moha is destructive ... Learn to live a balanced Life full of gay and laughter and with an intent to serve the society in right earnestness. Only then can one hope of forming a truly balanced and matured society.

    Moksha (Salvation)

Moksha is the stage when an Enlightened Human being .... One who has Realized-Self decides to leave the body ... To become free of all manifestations ever! Freed from the cycle of birth and death, the Human being in its pristine glory ... A purified Atman soul ... Finds place finally in the abode of God the Creator of the cosmos (the place from where it started its journey)!!

You become one with God ... the Creator! How noble for an atman soul to get liberated from the body it so badly desired to shed!! Taking Moksha Salvation ... An onward journey to the abode of birth ... The Cosmic Abode from where all Atmans start their journey at the time of Big Bang!!!

The path towards Moksha ... Though full of hardships for the self and family is extremely simple to follow for the devoted.

Explicit Faith in the Lord is the only requirement! Full 100% Faith ... Nothing less!! Do you ever expect the Engine of your Spiritual journey to start at 99 degrees? God guides those who need him on a journey towards him. An uncharted territory and an unknown path to follow ... Is the exalted privilege of the chosen few in a particular Era!!!

You do not have to be a King or an Emperor, a Mahatma or a Priest, a Saint or an Ascetic! Nor are you required to leave your parents or your home to meditate in the jungles (forests)!! God has destined this privilege to all who have abiding Faith in him, to achieve the Cosmic goal (the coveted aspiration of most Yogis) even while living in Grihastha Ashram (continue living in the family)!!!

To proceed on an unknown journey (the most fearsome decision for most) ... Is also the most difficult to take! Only recourse is identification of a true Guru (spiritual teacher) ... One who has already traveled on this path, knows it well and can guide one on the right path!!

A Guru (spiritual teacher) who can be trusted? Where and how to find one ... A question more difficult than the path itself ... To identify a Guru (spiritual teacher) from the lot of 600 crore people (6000 Million) manifesting on Mother Earth!

If you are sincere and pray to god ... You shall find the path one day! Never doubt his presence or his Divinity ... You are here for he is there. He created you ... You, a puny Human Being who can not but even duplicate the leaf of a plant?

What of the complete Cosmos and its Divine beauty! Looking at an extremely beautiful girl, you behold the beauty but fail to remember ... the Almighty who created her!!

Pray and all thy prayers shall always be answered! Never forsake your Faith in the Lord ... Your ladder to Spiritual success!! How noble and full of bliss is the path towards Moksha Salvation!!!

    Mrityu (Death)

Mrityu is the only factor most feared and dreaded by all living beings. No one wants to die. All want to live forever, become immortal. Can that be?

When God created the system, it had to possess within its being the power to change. Without change all would look monotonous and Life itself would stagnate. What is the meaning of Life ... To grow from within! Thus was built a tendency to evolute, within every form and being. If one stops performing his Karma, the inherent tendency of evolution keeps us going. The in built hunger in a Human Being makes him work.

After the function of the body is over in a particular Life cycle it is but inevitable that the death of body has to occur. Why fear the unknown but inevitable factor of Life!
