As
a layman if I desire to know the basic beliefs of Hinduism... the central beliefs
of Hinduism around which rotates Hinduism religion... can we enumerate the core
Hinduism beliefs in a manner easy to grasp by a commoner... the masses! The
major Hinduism beliefs consist of -
1. Belief
in continuity of life. As per Hinduism religion... as per the
sacred scriptures of Hinduism... the form of a human being is not
the ultimate essence of life! There is something more than meets
the eye... something that needs unveiling by fathoming the depth
of wisdom contained in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism.
As per sacred
Bhagavad Gita... the doctrine given to mankind by Lord Krishna...
the human form is but a sojourn... in the vast expanse of cosmic
life that every soul atman undergoes. Hinduism firmly believes in
the existence of a soul atman... the spirit within that has manifested
the human form to work out its karma... remove the dross impurities
within!
The
continuity of life as enumerated in Hinduism is different from the concept of
reincarnation rebirth as understood by most in the West. Reincarnation is the
most grossly misunderstood concept world over. The definition of Reincarnation
as per Wikipedia encyclopedia is rebirth of a part of body (after death of the
form) in a new body. The
ignorant contributors of Wikipedia fail to realize that the concept of reincarnation
can never be explained by one who has not yet reached the stage of self realization...
nee enlightenment! Mahavira... the 24th Tirthankara (preceptor) of Jainism rightly
said... do not preach anything unless you become a Mahavira... an enlightened
one! The concept
of reincarnation... rebirth is not difficult to understand! The fact of the matter
is... when something does not die... how it can take rebirth in a new body! As
stated in Bhagavad Gita... the entire life of a soul atman is one single span
of life... a span consisting of 8.4 million manifestations... an earthly life
cycle of 96.4 million years! Does
it mean the life cycle of every soul atman consists of a journey of 96.4 million
earthly years... yes, the truth is so! In its life every soul atman which is indestructible
by nature... that which cannot be created or destroyed starts its cosmic journey
as an amoeba (single cell formation)... The first manifestation in the cosmic
life cycle! It
further evolves into multi-cell formation... then insect life, plant life, animal
life and finally the form of human beings. Does it mean before reaching the stage
of human beings... we as human beings have already crossed the stages of insect,
plant and animal life... yes, the truth is so! The prime reason why human beings
sometimes behave like insects, plants or animals! Similar
as a student continues journey from class 1 to 12... Our soul atman... the spirit
within also continues its cosmic journey uninterrupted! Even though the entire
cosmic life span of soul atman is one continuous journey... but no two manifestations...
the journey of two life forms is ever interconnected directly... Why? The
prime reason why most human beings do not remember their past! It was never meant
to be. There is a specific reason for it details of which have been clarified
in various essays articles on karma. Whatever the residual balance of karma of
one life becomes the opening balance for the next manifestation. If
the residual balance of karma of present life after the death of the body demands
our soul atman manifesting the form of a laborer... one simply cannot manifest
the form of a prince! In the cosmic system the law of karma is dominating... the
controlling factor! It is only based on karma souls atmans proceeds from manifestation
to manifestation... body after body! Every
soul atman does not take rebirth or reincarnate... it simply manifests a new body
after death of the old body... as simple as changing of guards at Buckingham Palace!
In the physical manifest domain the family weeps bereaved but in the domain of
soul atman nothing much has happened. Based on the residual balance of karma the
soul atman manifests a new life form. As
per Hinduism, the teaching of sacred Bhagavad Gita... human form is the highest
manifest stage in the cosmic life cycle... particularly our planet Earth! Only
in the human form our soul atman gains release from the cycle of birth and death
forever... never otherwise! The moment human beings reached the stage of enlightenment
(kaivalya jnana) all is over for the soul atman. The
beliefs in continuity of life are the most important fundamental of all Hinduism
beliefs. This confirms the existence of a soul atman on its cosmic journey. This
also confirms that as human beings we are the highest manifest stage in the cosmic
system... our ultimate goal... gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and then
finally salvation (moksha).

The second important Hinduism belief is the existence of God Almighty... the
one and only one... the Creator of the cosmic system! In Hinduism God Almighty
has also been termed as Brahman, Parmatman, Creator, Karta and Sanatana Purusha!
Hinduism believes in existence of only one God as the ultimate Creator of the
whole cosmic system.
Still,
Hinduism also believes in existence of the cosmic system... existence of life
from times immemorial. How is that possible? How can both analogies withstand
scrutiny and still be correct. Simply as duality is part of life in the cosmic
system... the cosmic system also has duality which is best explained by the doctrine
of Maya (veil of illusion) best explained by Adi Shankaracharya. As
per the doctrine of Maya (veil of illusion) if we assume the Cosmos exists from
times immemorial... then what beyond... the Cosmos must have boundary. If it does
have... then what beyond! The Cosmos does not seem to have a boundary. As per
the doctrine of Maya... the whole cosmic system is an illusion... a dreamy state
of God Almighty! As
per the doctrine of Maya the world exists only in thoughts of God Almighty. The
physical manifest world that appears solid to us results from the presence of
senses within human beings. When viewed from the senses point of view the whole
world appears solid... truthfully... there is nothing solid in the cosmic system!
Everything is gaseous in nature. Broken
down to the basic building block of the Cosmos... everything in the Cosmos is
but a cluster of atoms and molecules. Every human being... every object is but
a gaseous formation... a cluster of atoms and molecules! When perceived from senses
point of view things appear solid... in the domain of God... in the world of souls'
atmans nothing solid exists in the cosmic system. It
is also a proven fact that when God Almighty explodes self with a big bang...
the whole Cosmos gets created. Finally, God Almighty is the Creator of the cosmic
system! The moment God Almighty explodes self with a big bang... God Almighty
(the cluster of all purified souls atmans in the Cosmos) disperses all over the
Cosmos at unimaginable speed. The
prime reason why the saying... God is everywhere! If an individual grain of sand
is an independent soul atman... the whole mound... the whole cluster God Almighty!
All pure souls atmans in the Cosmos at the time of big bang which had combined
together to form the volume of half a thumb now due to explosion of the big bang
scatter all over. In
the melee... the purified souls' atmans gather impurities similar as a rolling
ball gathers moss! And starts the cosmic journey of every soul atman! From the
beginning of life the goal of every soul atman remains... regaining its original
pure prime pristine primordial form at the earliest. From the first manifestation
to the last... the 8.4 million manifestation... the goal of life for every soul
atman remains regaining its original purified form at the earliest. This
becomes possible when human beings gain enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally
salvation (moksha). The purified soul atman having liberated forever from the
cycle of birth and death gains entry into the abode of God... the kingdom of God
(aka Vaikuntha in Hinduism). The portals of Vaikuntha are one way entry. The
purified souls' atmans having reached Vaikuntha... the kingdom of God need not
leave again. Having gained absolute purity the need for the soul atman to manifest
a new body ceases to exist. The karma having burnt forever... the purified soul
atman lives in Vaikuntha... remains in the kingdom of God until Pralaya (dissolution
of the Cosmos) occurs. From
the above we shall visualize that God Almighty is the Creator of the cosmic system
yet, the Cosmos seems to exist from times immemorial... for the prime reason it
does not seem to have a boundary. If it does have... then what beyond! To understand
the intricacies of the cosmic system we need assimilating the wisdom contained
in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism. For
an enlightened one it is not difficult to analyze and fathom the inner meaning
of all 700 shlokas (verses) contained in Bhagavad Gita. To believe in existence
of God is difficult for some... but for serious seekers of spirituality... believing
in God Almighty is the first step forward! In absence of absolute faith in God
Almighty nothing much can be achieved on the spiritual platform.

A very important Hinduism belief is belief in the fact that every human being
has the potential to become a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or prophet
Mohammed! As per Hinduism... as per the teachings of sacred Bhagavad Gita...
the journey in human form is the last leg of cosmic life for the soul atman.
Contrary
to beliefs of Christianity that Jesus Christ is a son of God... one different
from human beings Hinduism teachings believe in the cosmic truths of life... that
have always withstood the test of time. Believing in the fact that Jesus Christ
is a son of God is a misnomer. God Almighty is not the form of human beings...
it is a cluster of pure cosmic energy! In
the circumstances to misguide the humanity that Jesus Christ is a son of God is
being fundamentalist... something that gives rise to fanatic tendencies... the
prime reason why Christianity is doomed to failure in the coming times... the
prime reason why people await the coming of Antichrist. It
is one who shall unveil to the masses the flaws of Christianity... the inherent
basic flaws! Without a foundation, Christianity would die its own death! Such
a one who exposes the flaws of Christianity would be termed Antichrist even though
this messiah... the awaited Bhagwan Kalki would be a truthful person... one who
develops a following of 2000 million people world over! If
we look into the fundamentals of spirituality... we would find no matter what
all human beings have to take the same path... the path of enlightenment (kaivalya
jnana) and finally salvation (moksha). No one comes from the top... there is nothing
like a son of God... and even the concept of an Avatar (God manifesting a human
form) in Hinduism is a farce. Why? A
single loner... an independent human being developing a following of about 2000
million people... what would be termed one... nothing much than a true son of
God! Does not mean one is truly a son of God... a non existent being! God Almighty
is the combined power of all souls' atmans in the Cosmos at a given point of time. Lord
Krishna... an Avatar of his era (God manifest in human form) was termed an Avatar
in Hinduism for the prime reason that as a young kid he had supernatural powers.
The existence of supernatural powers does not mean the incumbent is God Almighty
himself manifesting human form. When
Joan of Arc... a commoner... a young girl took the reins of France and
changed the destiny of mankind... what more can be expected of travelers of the
spiritual path... those who have gained enlightenment and salvation. When power
flows from the barrel of a gun... the world recognizes that power! What
when supernatural powers are demonstrated by a young kid... something inconceivable
by all standards! For a commoner... the mass... the likes of Lord Krishna is nothing
but God Almighty himself. One is termed a messiah... God Almighty in human form!
I again repeat God Almighty never takes the form of a human being... no never
under any circumstance! As
time demands... when the situation is ripe... a commoner... one amongst us dons
the mantle of an enlightened one combined with powers of Chanakya (the most able
administrator world has ever seen). Such a one would be termed Bhagwan Kalki in
present times... the awaited messiah of the present era... the one and only one...
the stated 10th Avatar of Lord Vishnu!

One another important belief of Hinduism is the doctrine of karma... the ultimate
master and controller of all things cosmic! In absence of the laws of karma...
the entire Cosmos simply could not sustain! If the Cosmos exists... so do the
laws of karma! In absence of karma... it would just be impossible for a soul atman
to manifest a form of life to remove dross impurities within! The
doctrine of karma has never been understood rightly by people in the West. As
per laws of karma... we are always supposed to work in a fashion... in a manner
that we never attach self to the fruits of karma performed. As per Bhagavad Gita
every single individual human being must live life Nishakama karma way... as lived
by JRD Tata... a Karma Yogi par excellence! As
per JRD Tata... every single individual human being is just a trustee of God!
As per JRD Tata nothing truly belongs to any human being. Whatever we see with
the physical manifest eyes... everything belonged to God Almighty! We are simply
an instrument in the hands of God... always supposed to work as a true trustee
taking care of everything on behalf of God Almighty! The
world has yet to see another Karma Yogi... as excellent as JRD Tata... one who
truly believed in the simplicities of life! Living life Nishakama karma way is
an important ingredient on the path of pure spirituality. Belief in Nishakama
karma way of life is a fundamental teaching of Bhagavad Gita... the doctrine given
to mankind by Lord Krishna! Until
human beings kept themselves attached to the fruits of karma performed... there
is no point traveling the spiritual path... the prime reason why only two persons
world over gained enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) in the last about 150 years.
Only two persons amongst a population exceeding 7 billion... traveling the path
of spirituality definitely is difficult! King
Janaka... Father of Sita in Ramayana was a Karma Yogi par excellence. King Janaka
all his life performed karma Nishakama karma way! Even while taking care of his
country and countrymen... the whole administration he never even once attached
self to the fruits of karma performed... King Janaka gained enlightenment (kaivalya
jnana) in his lifetime!
To cut the shackles of karma... to free self from the bondage of
karma is extremely difficult in the present materialistic world
yet, not impossible! Dominated by a bloated ego... most human beings
find it difficult to practice forgiveness... the inner strength
and fundamental principle of Nishakama karma way of life.
Unless
we have the power of forgiving one... we simply cannot live life Nishakama karma
way! To become a true trustee of God... to travel the path of spirituality unhindered...
performing karma Nishakama karma way is the fundamental necessity... something
that can never be overlooked! In present times how many people do we find working
Nishakama karma way.
Even
technical stalwarts like Bill Gates... the chief architect of Microsoft Corp bitterly
fail on this point. Bill Gates does not understand even the fundamental principles
of spirituality... how one can be expected to take care of the community at large!
Donating huge sums of money for the Aids foundation does not mean anything...
true charity always begins at home.
Madame
Curie... a Karma Yogi par excellence gave away her life for the sake of community.
In her search for radium in pitchblende... her body was totally scarred in the
end. At no stage of life she had enough money to leave a sustainable life. In
all situations of life she always ploughed through... searching for radium was
as important to her as the meals and her living! Furthermore
it is the doctrine of karma through which the chromosomes from one manifest life
passes to another... the new form of life! After the death of body based on the
residual balance of karma of the present manifestation... the soul atman manifests
a new body and starts a new journey of life. The closing balance of one life becomes
the opening balance of the next! Based
on the doctrine of karma... life moves uninterrupted from one manifestation to
another... body after body! Understanding the fundamentals of karma is essential
for human beings... particularly the travelers of spiritual path! How many people
in the West truly understand what karma is? The physical action hardly constitutes
10% of the job... 90% is mental... inherent! The
moment the entire karma dissolves... the need for the soul atman to manifest a
new body ceases to exist. This is the stage when human beings gained enlightenment
(kaivalya jnana)... the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... the stage of nothingness
when one can have a dialogue with God Almighty on one-to-one basis... and that
too permanently!
Similar
as human form has four stages in life... as per Sacred Bhagavad Gita presuming
a human life span of hundred years... the initial 25 years is the time for learning...
gaining Wisdom to excel in the physical manifest world! Next 25 years are meant
to work... engage in a profession... develop a family in a meaningful manner until
the children grow up, marry and get settled in life.
The
Next 25 years is the period of contemplation when we get time to learn the basics
of life... the fundamental essentials of the spiritual path! The time for reckoning...
when apart from our family duties we have sufficient time at our disposal to peep
into the inner domains of life... the working of our soul atman... the spirit
within! The remaining
25 years is the period of sanyasa (renunciation). Having lived a meaningful life...
at 76 years of the age one must become a renunciate... totally unattached from
the physical manifest world. This is the period for human beings to reach the
portals of God... gain enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha). Similar
as above four periods of time... in the life of soul atman the initial three stages
are spent as insect life, plant life and animal life! In the final stage when
soul atman manifests the form of a human being... it is expected of human beings
to cross over the world of Samsara (worldly life) at the earliest and step into
the portals of God... the path of spirituality! Who
knows what we shall be in the next manifestation... why not travel the spiritual
path now! Believing in most fundamentals of Hinduism... the different beliefs
of Hinduism I finally realized God in 1993 at 37 years of age. This is my last
life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation! Having reached the Mount Everest of spiritual
pursuit... I have nowhere further to go!
God
Almighty had ordained a particular task for me in this life. Ever since six years
of age I have been pursuing that goal! With the blessings of God Almighty... the
one and only one God... before I leave this mortal frame... I would impart back
to the masses whatever I had gained on the spiritual path. May God bless us all!
