Nothing can be more pious and sacred than reading or hearing Ramayana! Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads (with deeper meaning) can not be understood by a common man but ramayana, in the dialect of a common man can be easily assimilated by all!!

All the Teachings in Ramayana hold good ... Even after a lapse of above 3500 yrs! Every event and episode must be read and made applicable in the present context. During the time of king Rama ... mode of traveling was bullock carts but now ... We have planes as the fastest mode of transport!! Drawing correct inferences is the Essence of reading Ramayana!!

Keeping ourselves bound within the confines of the textual meaning tends to make us superstitious! We become slaves of mere ritual practices!! Reading with an open mind conveys the correct meaning ... The only lessons we are to learn from History!!
