Meditation:
Anyone with a slight Spiritual inclination would say with confidence that one
meditates daily. Ask them the right procedure for Meditation ... most would stare
blank! One may say, Meditation means concentrating on the core of a lighted bulb
in a darkened room. Others may put forward, "trying to concentrate on nothingness
... a state when no thought remains in the body". Fewer still would say," concentrating
on your atman the soul within". How! Is what eludes them all. You can meditate
perfectly well if you knew the meaning of word " Meditation".
"Meditation"
is the English translation of Hindi word "Yoga". Yoga is an Upanishadic word and
since the times of Mahabharata
and the preachings of Lord Krishna
... it's meaning has remained the same. For understanding any Upanishadic text
one has to delve deeper within the inner confines of the word meaning. Literal
translation won't help. It is by far best for those who want their names etched
in the history with Golden colors ... who take pride in decorating their names
with numerous degrees ... so-called Scholars of Philosophy. Yoga
is derived from the basic root "Yog" which in Hindi means uniting something. Yog
of 2 plus 2 is 4. Yoga in Spiritual terminology means ... the effort of Atman
(The Soul Within on its Cosmic journey) to get reunited with its source, the Brahman
(the Almighty Creator of the cosmos). This subconscious effort of Atman within
may not be always given cognizance by the egoistic I of a Human Being. Truth prevails.
The Atman within dominates all our actions in the end. Yoga ... which is inherently
being tried out by Atman within all the time finds itself expressed in Saints
and Sages who have achieved a certain level of Spiritual purification.
For a common
man, it is a struggle of 8.4 Million manifestations right from the stage when
it started on its Cosmic journey. As an Amoebae (first manifestation taken by
the Atman) and up to the last stage of perfection ... the Nirvikalpa Samadhi,
the Self Realization and finally gains moksha salvation! To cut short the journey
by proper synchronization (Yoga) is a hard task! Only few succeed in their attempts.
The journey has to be completed by one and all ... no exceptions. Do it willingly
as prompted by atman the soul within or unwillingly as dictated by your ego.
You alone shall
reap the dividends of your Karma. Why hesitate of the inevitable! Do not fear
God. He loves all and equally. He never discriminates. You are born poor owing
to resultant Karma of your past lives. You can improve upon your Karma by neutralizing
your negative Prarabdha Karma by praying to God and asking for Forgiveness for
sins committed in this or earlier lives. Never be the judge of his (Creator's)
actions. Invoke the Grace of God (available absolutely free). The most important
aspect of Life, the power to Forgive has always been available free, yet underutilized
by most Human Beings (owing to their ignorance).
Practice Meditation in its truest form. Be truthful to all. As you climb higher
and higher on the Spiritual plane, you shall reap the benefits of your labor of
love.
Yoga is required to be practiced in following stages -
1. You are required to practice it in Daily Life ... free yourself of all sins
committed knowingly or unknowingly in day-to-day Life. If the sin is committed
by the others ... you have to learn to Forgive them.
2. You have to absolve yourself of all the accumulated sins of past lives. You
must earn the Grace of God ... pay Obeisance to all Atmans against whom the sin
was committed.
Once you are free of all sinful effects, your body would glow from the Truthfulness
radiating from within ... all negative influences drained out from your body ...
you shall feel energized from the residual effects the Spirituality. Maintaining
a balance between the effects of the present and past lives is the Essence of
Yoga. A true Yogi lives in this World but is not attached to the body. King Janaka
was a true example of such a phenomenon.
Working out a perfect synthesis between atman the soul within and Brahman (the
Almighty Creator of the cosmos) is the Essence of Yoga. One needs to maintain
his body in perfect shape and health to practice Yoga (Yogic exercises thus form
part and parcel of this curriculum).
To reach the source of all (the Baikunth) wherein resides the Creator, one has
to start from one's own body. Which part of the body plays most vital role? No
heart ... no body. No heart ... no Atman, for heart is the abode of atman the
soul within. To reach the heart and its occupant one needs to concentrate on the
intermediate link. Thus arises the necessity of concentrating on "Shava Asana"
(the death posture) which alone has the capability of leading one to atman the
soul within.
Who inhales ... the body? No no ... it cannot be for, the body is inert. atman
the soul within needs oxygen for its survival. If you are able to reach the source
through your breathing process ... you shall one day come face-to-face with your
true inner self. Atman
being of the same Essence as that of Brahman, you are bound to realize God within
this Life. To meditate properly you must have a definite reason. Once the goal
is fixed it is but to concentrate all your energies on the target. Single pointed
concentration would win you the day. What of the goal? What must be have in mind
before starting Meditation!
Meditation (Yoga) is but a journey. Eternal goal for all is fixed since eternity.
One has only to decide whether to complete the Cosmic journey within this Life
time nay postpone it indefinitely. A fixed Cosmic goal of Life, our total Faith
in God, an unwavering Faith in our own capability (of realizing the goal in this
Life) brings us closer to God. If we are lucky enough, we shall earn his grace
... one darshan of God and all is over for Atman within. No further looking back
. Veil of Maya (ignorance) removed forever, we can now have a glimpse of the Essence
of the Creator and his creation. Ephemeral realities like material riches, physical
relationships etc. ... all lose their meaning. All become one for you. In the
mighty ocean of 6000 Million people you fail to distinguish your own from others.
Till yesterday all whom you called your Father, Mother, Guru , wife and children
lost to God ... you are able to break the bond which attached you with your near
and dear one's. By:
